BUGLER'S HALL OF FAME SHOW
&
INDUCTION CEREMONY

It was drum corps weather, a bright, beautiful day as Bob and I headed to meet up with the rest of the corps for the BHOF show in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

I was eagerly anticipating this show because for weeks the corps has been working to make this performance a truly memorable one for themselves and those that were coming to see this show.

The excitement was evident as the corps who were to participate were unpacking their gear and setting up for pre performance rehearsals.  We caught up with our corps in the lobby of the Holiday Inn at Bridgeport where the show and induction ceremony was to be held.  Many of the old friends from other corps were there for the show and it was a great chance to play catch up.

Finally, it was time for the show and SELDEN got into their uniforms and waited for their cue to take the stage.  John "Cupcakes" Curran took the microphone and asked Drum Major Glenn Kubacki if his corps was ready.   With a salute, Glenn brought the corps to attention and SELDEN launched into a rousing rendition of "Rampart Street".  The corps executed each of the numbers in their repertoire with a performance that was masterful.  The confidence in their performance was evident.  As the last note of "Alexander's Ragtime Rag" sounded, the crowd got to their feet in tribute to a great performance.  It was the culmination of the past five years of hard work that brought the corps to what I consider its finest performance to date.

Throughout the day, there were great performances and great performers at this show.  Legendary performers were standing in line with some of the corps that were the stuff "war stories" are told about.  Every corps, individual and ensemble there put on a show that was "outstanding" and  the Holiday Inn was jumpin'.

It was however; SELDEN ALUMNI Frank Diliberto's day as he was to be honored with his induction into the Bugler's Hall of Fame after the show.  Many of you know Frank from his early drum corps days with another legendary corps, the SUNRISERS.  Frank joined the SUNRISERS back in "the day" and quickly became a legend.  He is one of the "greatest of the great"  soloists and has had many of the kids that came after him try to emulate his style. We, the SELDEN CADETS ALUMNI have had the great good fortune to have Frank in our corps.  He has contributed to the success of the corps with his great performances as a soloist, he along with Frank Buscemi is one of a  lead line that soars into the stratosphere.   Frank Buscemi's nomination of Frank Diliberto lead to his induction into the BHOF and as Frank Buscemi presented him with his medal, the
speech he gave honored his family and paid tribute to those players that he was in line with both in the past and present.
Frank truly represents the best in this activity.  Congratulations Frank!

With good memories from Bridgeport, we are looking forward to our next show in Reading, PA.  May 8th, it is Reading Buccaneers "Spring Preview" show.  We hope that some of our friends and family will make the trip to the show and cheer us on.
